It warms your heart when you meet a person that’s a genuinely good human being, who does little acts of kindness for others.
And Travis Sattler of Katy, Texas is one of those human beings. The 18-year-old didn’t think twice about helping a little boy who walked up to the counter at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers where he had been working for about a year.
And that small act of kindness ended up coming back to him in a big way. The little boy had just finished eating with his mother when he walked up to the counter where Travis was working the register.
He ordered a mini mint Oreo custard.
“Once I told him his total he was fumbling around with his change (and) all of his money, counting it all, and then he just hands everything to me,” says Travis told Click 2 Houston.
But the little boy didn’t have enough money to pay for it.
“He was maybe $2 short,” Travis told USA Today.
But Travis wasn’t about to let this boy walk out of the restaurant without his ice cream. So, he pulled out his card, swiped it, and told the boy that it was on him.
“(He had) a massive smile (and) the widest eyes (when he) ran back to his mom and told her what happened,” Travis said.
He had no idea that his kindness was about to be returned tenfold.
About 30 minutes later, the little boy walked up to Travis and handed him a note before walking out of the restaurant with his mom.
“It says, ‘Thank you for being so nice and paying for my custard. We need more people like you,'” Sattler read.
The note also had a $100 bill wrapped up in him.
“I like to think that I made a good impact on their day, and I kind of brightened it up, just like they did mine,” Travis said.
Travis said that he plans to save the money for nursing school.
“I am currently paying my way through nursing school so that will definitely help with that,” says Travis.
And Travis’ bosses couldn’t be more proud of him.
They gave him an extra $100 as well and sent him some other goodies.
“There is a lot of good still out there no matter what we hear, especially in our young folks, we have a number of them here, Travis being one of them,” said franchise owner Padden Nelson. “Travis’ face is probably a face that boy will remember for a long time.”
Nelson says that he hopes to track down the family so that he can offer them some gift cards.
We all need to look out for each other,” Travis said. “Look out for each other and help out when you can.”
Even as a teen Travis seems to understand the importance of kindness and being helpful to others. Surely he’ll continue to do great things in this world!
