Football players, especially quarterbacks, are known to be able to run very fast – and this purse snatcher definitely found out the hard way.

The burglar tried to run away from a rookie police officer on his very first day, but little did he know that the officer was actually a former quarterback for Kansas State DB. Kip Daily, a former Division 1 football player who now works at the Carrollton Police Department, definitely still knows how to use his speed and agility.

The victim, Heather Carlton, was simply parking her car to go grocery shopping in the city, along with her two daughters.

Right before she wanted to exit the car, she was approached by a stranger, who made clear that he had a gun or a weapon of some sort.

He immediately made it clear that this was a robbery. However, the man saw that Heather’s two young children in the car as well, so he didn’t try to make a scene.

“He kind of leaned out of his car and he said, ‘I won’t point this at you because I see you have kids. But I’m gonna need your purse,'” Heather said in an interview with FOX4 News.

However, the thief was able to be apprehended within minutes, and Officer Kip Daily is the one who was able to catch him so quickly.

The suspect, Dwight Donnell Homer who is pictured below, found himself in handcuffs just a couple of minutes later, after a stressful yet very short chase with a police car.

When the thief tried to drive away in his car, a police patrol immediately responded to the call. A short chase occurred, and the Carrollton Police Department even showed some dashcam footage of the chase. Not too long after, however, the suspect crashed his car out of panic and tried to get away on foot.

Running extremely fast is something that’s right up the rookie officer’s alley. Only this time, he wasn’t chasing a football, but a thief with a stolen purse.

Officer Daily’s background certainly helped him out here, because the suspect didn’t manage to get very far. From the moment the police officer saw the suspect running away, he jumped out of his squad car himself after his partner gave him the go-ahead to grab the suspect.

The former professional football player managed to get the suspect in cuffs almost effortlessly. As for Heather, she got her wallet and her smartphone back shortly after everything transpired.

Her two children who were sitting in the car didn’t even the slightest clue that something was wrong, according to mom.

The news station attempted to reach the police officer himself for the interview, but Officer Daily respectfully declined. Since this was his first day on the streets, he didn’t want to have too much attention directed towards himself and just wanted to focus on his brand new job.

After playing twenty football games professionally at K-State for a number of years, it was time for a new challenge, and it seems like Officer Daily fits right in.

A spokesperson of the Carrollton PD did have a small comment to make about their new rookie police officer.

“We are all K-State fans at CPD today. A purse snatcher made the REALLY bad decision to run from rookie Officer Kip Daily this afternoon. See, what the bad guy didn’t know was that before he caught criminals, Daily caught interceptions as a Defensive Back for the Wildcats. Running is kind of what he does. We’re glad he’s on our team now,” they posted on their Facebook page.
