When it comes to maintaining peace and order, police officers are willing to do anything. From apprehending drunk drivers to catching thieves, they will do everything they can to get the job done safely and properly.

When Officer Brad White received several calls about a distressed woman wandering around the highway, he immediately responded.

However, instead of seeing a woman on the brink of danger, he saw a rogue chicken and a frustrated Ohio State University veterinary student.

The student named Jessie has been on the median strip of an Ohio highway for several minutes. She was trying hard to recover a chicken which she saw feeding in the grass. It was pretty dangerous so she didn’t want it to wander into traffic.

To help her out, Officer Brad and another officer assisted in chasing the chicken.

They used multiple strategies but every single one of them failed. The chicken was clever enough to escape each attempt.

Then, Jessie shared a plan.

She planned on waiting on dusk because the bird would roost. At that point, it’ll be easier to catch.

With the officers’ help and Jessie’s persistence, they were able to keep the chicken corralled. And after about 15 minutes, she was able to dive on the chicken to capture it.

To make sure that it doesn’t find itself along the highway again, Jessie gave the chicken a home in her family’s farm. There, it could wander around without risking itself.

Officer Brad’s friends were proud of him.

He actually has friends who owned chickens as well. Knowing that he went the extra mile to save one made them extra proud of him.

This isn’t the first story about police officers going out of their way to help catch wandering chickens.

In Nashville, police officers found themselves on a wild chase after a loose chicken was found blocking traffic one morning. It needed to be chased through a really busy intersection.

The officers had a hard time capturing the elusive fowl so they ended up using a lure. And believe it or not, they were able to catch the chicken using an oatmeal cream pie.

After catching it, the chicken was turned over to an animal rescue group to make sure it doesn’t end up on the streets again.

In another story, a police officer from Westchester County saved a chicken from fire. He was removing some propane tanks and preventing them from exploding when he saw the poor chicken.

Chickens tend to wander around to find their next meal.

Since they have really good vision, they don’t have a hard time spotting bugs and worms in the dirt.

The problem, however, is that their foresight is lacking. They can’t easily tell if they are about to get into trouble. This is why most chickens that wander end up in places where they aren’t supposed to be.

Fortunately, there are police officers who are willing to help capture them for their safety.
