You never know what you’re going to get with your Uber driver sometimes. There’s the talkative type, the silent type, the crabby, and the nice type. Some drivers are very accommodating for their riders, going out of their way to make them comfortable and get them where they need to be. This particular driver accepted a rare request from a family looking to drive 200 miles to attend a birthday party.

Kerry Maggard and Deb Eggers were only trying to get to their Aunt’s hundredth birthday when they ran into some road blocks. All of the flights to South Dakota were booked and it was impossible to get a rental car at the time. They thought they were entirely out of options when, on a whim, Maggard called an Uber. She knew it was a sort of outrageous request, but took a chance and it paid off. A driver by the name Jesus Florentino accepted the trip, and the girls couldn’t believe it.

“I was shocked that anyone even picked it up. It was kind of a last resort to see if anyone would consider it.” Maggard said in an interview. “It was picked up immediately and of course I got the message on the phone which said ‘Jesus is 7 minutes away’, which was quite a shock.” She even called Florentino to double check, and make sure he knew what he as getting into. After clearing things up, the app notified them that he would be there in 7 minutes , and the road trip began.

“I felt that they needed to attend the birthday, and I enjoy driving, so yea it worked out well. It’s an important occasion and if I was in their position I would very much appreciate someone bringing me there when there was no other way.” said Florentino in an interview. After he dropped off the sisters in Sioux Falls he turned the car around and made the 4 hour trip home back to Minneapolis.

The 200 mile, 4 hour trek was worth the time that the sisters got to spend with their aunt for her 100th birthday. Maggard ended up tipping Florentino $50 on the $216 trip, a price well worth it in the eyes of these women just looking to spend time with their family. Just when you think you’re out of options, it’s always worth it to take a chance and hopefully find that person willing to go the extra mile.
